Grass Cutting

Understanding who is responsible for maintaining the various areas of publicly owned areas of grass within the village can be very confusing. We have provided an interactive map below which we hope will help clarify the situation for land owned by the Parish, Borough and County Councils.

Dersingham Parish Council own a number of amenity areas in the village including the Recreation Ground in Hunstanton Road and The Warren, which are maintained by the Parish Council. The areas maintained by the Parish Council are coloured yellow and red on our interactive grass cutting map. A link to the map may be found below. Any enquiries or comments about these areas should be addressed to the Parish Council by Email. It may be helpful if you are able to take a photograph to illustrate your concern.

Norfolk County Council is the local Highway Authority and is therefore responsible for the maintenance of roadside verges that form part of the Public Highway, but in Dersingham they have an arrangement where the Borough Council undertake grass cutting on their behalf. For information about Norfolk County Council grass cutting policies, please refer to the NCC website. (Tip: the easiest way to find the correct page on their website is to enter “Grass Cutting” in the search box). If you want to report an issue, this is best done using the report form on either the County or Borough Council website.

The Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk own and maintain several small areas of amenity land in the village, mainly on Mountbatten Estate. They also maintain a few areas of grass adjacent to highways or footpaths. Information about the Borough Councils grass cutting policies can be found on their website. Any enquiries or comments about these should be addressed to the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk using the report form on their website. (Tip: the easiest way to find the correct page on their website is to enter “Grass Cutting” in the search box)

Other grassed areas around the village, including the Sportsground in Manor Road, the commons, verges and amenity land owned by Housing Associations are maintained and managed by their owners or tenants.

We have produced an interactive map to clarify who is responsible for maintaining grass on the land owned by one of the three councils. The map should be treated as for guidance only as the accuracy of the information provided cannot be guaranteed. Please feel free to contact the Parish Office should you need further assistance.

As a general principle, check if the grass area, footpath or dyke you are interested in is coloured yellow or red on our interactive map. If it is, any issue should be reported to the Parish Council by Email.  If the area is coloured light or dark blue, any issues should be reported to the Borough Council using their online services.
