King’s Lynn Internal Drainage Board

King’s Lynn Internal Drainage Board has extensive responsibilities for water management and flood prevention in Norfolk. They are responsible for such infrastructure as pumping stations, water control structures and watercourses as defined by the Board. The Board has the legal power to Adopt watercourses within their area, thereby becoming responsible for their maintenance.
Only a small part of the Parish of Dersingham lies within the Boards area with the result that their responsibility for watercourses within the parish finish on the edge of the village built-up part of the village. Never the less, the watercourses managed by the Board play an essential part in disposal of surface water from the village.
The Interactive map below shows the main watercourses within the Parish in blue and those adopted by the Internal Drainage Board shown in brown.
The Internal Drainage Board is responsible for all watercourses shown in brown on the map. Identifying who is responsible for the maintenance of the other, arguably equally important, watercourses is another matter entirely. This is a major issue for the village and will be covered elsewhere on this website.
